A Brief History of JMJ Social Service Society (JMJ SSS) – Hyderabad Province
JMJ Social Service Society (JMJ SSS) is the social arm of the Society of JMJ, a Catholic religious congregation with its headquarters in Hyderabad. The society has been committed to serving the marginalized since its establishment in India in 1904.
The social apostolate gained structured direction in 1982 under the guidance of Fr. Amalraj SJ and Fr. Santiago, with active involvement of Sisters Henricia, Bertilia, Bhagya, and Cecily. Early social outreach began even earlier in 1973 through Sr. Celestine and Sr. Augustine in the slums of Hyderabad.
Following the division of the JMJ Hyderabad Province into four provinces in 1987, each province established its own social service society. The JMJ SSS was formally registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 and the FCRA (No. 010280049).
Initially based at St. Theresa’s Hospital, the headquarters moved to Achampet (Mahabubnagar) and later, in 2004, to Fatima Convent, Mahabubnagar for better connectivity. It was officially inaugurated on May 1, 2006, and continues to serve poor, tribal, and rural communities through various developmental programs, inspired by the charism of “ever adaptable apostolic availability” given by the founder, Fr. Mathias Wolff, S.J.

JMJ SSS Zonal Structure and Coordination
JMJ Social Service Society (JMJ SSS) operates across four major zones to ensure effective outreach and community engagement. Each zone is overseen by a dedicated Sister Coordinator, who monitors, supports, and guides the activities within her respective local area.
The Four Zones:
- Achampet Zone: (Sr. Lourdu Mary Yerrareddy)
- Covers rural and tribal areas with focus on education, women empowerment, and health initiatives.
- Kurnool Zone: (Sr. John Mary Vatti)
- Engages in youth development, livelihood programs, and disaster relief in underserved communities.
- Khammam Zone: (Sr. Margaret Ekka)
- Known for its work on environmental sustainability, child rights, and marginalized community support.
- Hyderabad Zone: (Sr. Sleevamma Kavali)
- Concentrates on urban outreach, LGBTQ welfare, medical aid, and skill development.
Role of Sister Coordinators:
- Monitor and evaluate local programs and activities.
- Liaise between field workers and the central office.
- Support planning, training, and reporting at the zonal level.
- Ensure that the mission and values of JMJ SSS are upheld in every initiative.
This zonal coordination system enables JMJ SSS to function smoothly, respond promptly to local needs, and maintain a strong presence across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
